Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class X156 as the inspiration for the miniature
The miniature shown here is based on the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (X156), a compact SUV built on Mercedes-Benz’s MFA platform. This is the first-generation X156, produced from 2014 to 2019. There wasn’t a direct predecessor in the GLA lineup; this model kicked off Mercedes-Benz’s compact SUV offering below the GLK and later the GLC. Technically, it was closely related to the A-Class W176, the B-Class W246, and the CLA C117. The body had five doors, higher ground clearance, roof rails, and plastic cladding around the wheel arches to fit the crossover segment. Depending on the market and version, it was available with front-wheel drive or the variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The engine range for the gasoline versions went from the GLA 180 up to the GLA 250, while the diesel lineup included the GLA 180 d, GLA 200 d, and GLA 220 d. Buyers could choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or the 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission. The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (X156) was also offered as the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45, whose two-liter turbo engine produced 360 hp in the early versions.
Body, technology, and design of the compact SUV
With a length of around 4.42 meters (14.5 feet), a width of about 1.80 meters (5.9 feet), and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters (8.9 feet), Mercedes-Benz positioned the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (X156) somewhere between a compact car and a classic SUV. Depending on the seat position, the trunk held about 421 liters (14.9 cubic feet); with the rear seatbacks folded down, there was much more cargo space. Depending on the model year and trim, the equipment included things like Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist Plus, Adaptive Brake Assist, a rearview camera, Parktronic, LED daytime running lights, and the COMAND Online infotainment system. With the facelift from 2017 onward, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (X156) got a revised grille, updated bumpers, and optional LED High Performance headlights. The green comparison vehicle in the third photo shows this later front-end design with the more structured grille. The silver miniature, on the other hand, has the front with two wide horizontal slats and mostly matches the earlier design of the model line. The visible proportions, with a short hood, rising window line, and a roof spoiler stretching far toward the rear, reproduce the shape of the production car pretty well in collector scale.
Norev model car in 1/18 diecast
The example from Modelly member “C209” is a model car in 1/18 scale, made by Norev. The model is made from diecast material, meaning the body parts are cast in metal; plastic parts are used for things like the glazing, lights, bumper sections, and underbody details. The paint is silver metallic with a fine, even sheen. Contrast comes from the black lower body elements, dark windows, black wheel arch cladding, and the side sills. Silver roof rails and mirror housings stand out against the roof and window surrounds. At the front, you can make out the Mercedes star in the grille, the two silver grille bars, shaped air intakes, and the outlines of the headlamp units. The license plate says “GLA-Klasse,” making the identification of the miniature immediately clear. The bumper also shows hinted sensor areas and a silver trim piece on the lower air intake.

The rear view also shows the typical rear-end shape of the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (X156): a wide tailgate, side-mounted taillights, a roof spoiler with a slim brake light, and a rear wiper. The red light units are made up of several sections and are complemented by a narrow chrome strip above the license plate area. In the lower bumper, you can see a black diffuser area, a silver skid plate, and two rectangular exhaust outlets. Multi-spoke wheels in black and silver reflect the alloy wheel styles offered for the model line; no exact wheel brand or wheel designation can be read from the photos. Through the clear side windows, you can spot the seats, dashboard, and steering wheel as interior details. Door gaps, door handles, fuel filler flap, window frames, and the lines on the hood and tailgate are all separately detailed. This 1/18 scale model car, made by Norev, shows the clean design of the compact Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (X156) with crisp body lines, a balanced ratio of glass to metal surfaces, and the SUV styling cues that make the car so recognizable.
