Various modifications of KAMAZ-5410 were actively used for several decades not only throughout the USSR, but also in more than forty foreign countries.

The versatility of the tractor fifth wheel design allows it to be used with various types of semi-trailers, designed, for example, for the transport of goods for various purposes, liquefied gas, fuel and other liquids, agricultural products, etc. Even today, despite their advanced age, many of these trucks continue to be in service.

The history of the creation of the KamAZ-5410 model

The KamAZ-5410 truck tractor belongs to the number of vehicles created on the basis of the first three-axle heavy truck, which received the index 5320. The debut of the prototype took place in 1974, and already in February 1976, such serial vehicles as 5410 truck tractor, 5511 dump truck, 53212 extended flatbed truck, 53213 chassis, as well as their two-axle counterparts. The release of these cars was timed to the XXV Congress of the Communist Party of the USSR. All representatives of this family had a similar design and were unified in many respects.

Thanks to its unique technical characteristics, KamAZ-5410 has become one of the most popular trucks in the line. This model remained in demand for a long time in the post-Soviet period, so its production continued right up to 2006. KamAZ-54115 became a worthy successor of the triaxial truck tractor family, having received a number of design innovations that made it possible to increase its carrying capacity, performance and comfort.

Fuel consumption

By today's standards, KamAZ-5410 does not in any way draw on the title of an economical truck. The average fuel consumption of this truck is about 41 liters per 100 km. However, at full load, and even in winter, this figure increases significantly. In connection with such an immodest "appetite" of the truck, the designers of KamAZ replaced the 250-liter tank with which it was originally equipped with large capacities. So the basic version of the tractor is equipped with a 350-liter fuel tank, and a more expensive modification has a 500-liter tank.
KamAZ-5410 engine

Initially, a four-stroke KamAZ-740.10 engine was installed on all modifications of KamAZ-5410. This is a V-shaped 8-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel unit with a displacement of 10.85 liters. Its rated power was 154 kW (210 hp) and the torque was 668 Nm.

Over many years of operation, this motor has proven its reliability and unpretentiousness, but its environmental performance left much to be desired. Over time, the tractor began to be equipped with more advanced turbocharged engines - KAMAZ-740.11 with a capacity of 240 hp. with., corresponding to the environmental standard Euro-1. Now KamAZ-5410s with in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged engines with a volume of 9.5 liters and a power of 260 hp also ply on Russian roads. With. BMZ-31.06.01 (Euro-2), produced at the Belgorod Motor Plant.

Transmission

The engine of the KAMAZ-5410 car is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox with mechanical remote control. The transmission design includes a divider, which is an additional 2-speed box located between the clutch and the main box, which doubles the number of speeds, i.e. up to 10. The gear ratio of the main gear is 5.43. The torque from the motor to the box is transmitted by means of a two-plate friction dry clutch, equipped with a hydraulic drive with a pneumatic booster. Friction linings have a diameter of 350 mm. Chassis KamAZ-5410, unfortunately, can not boast of a smooth ride on uneven roads. However, given that it is not a pleasure car, then, in principle, the chassis has a very good design.

Two semi-elliptical leaf springs are responsible for the soft overcoming of road bumps by the front wheels, and hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers are responsible for reducing vertical oscillations. The rear suspension is of a balancing type, made on a pair of longitudinal semi-elliptical springs with 6 jet rods. On the front and rear axles of the tractor there are discless wheels with a size of 7.0-20 (178-508), “shod” in pneumatic radial tires 9.00R20 (260R508).

Brake system

The truck is equipped with drum-type brakes with pneumatic drive on all wheels. The brake drums are 400 mm in diameter and the brake pads are 140 mm wide. On all modifications of tractors, semi-trailers have a brake system with a combined drive, except for the hydraulic version for working with specialized semi-trailers - a two-wire brake circuit is involved there.

KamAZ-5410 frame

The main frame elements of the KamAZ-5410 tractor are made of 8 mm sheet steel by stamping. The frame design includes two longitudinal spars with a channel profile and five transverse spars with a prefabricated structure. All elements are fastened together by means of rivets. The front of the frame is equipped with a buffer with a pair of towing forks. The rear frame cross member has a rigid tow hitch designed for towing faulty vehicles over short distances.

KamAZ-5410 cab: workplace overview Exterior

The external design of the KamAZ-5410 cab is extremely simple and concise, as all trucks of the Soviet era were supposed to be. The main task of the designers was to create the most functional hardworking cars, so no one bothered with the aesthetic component. Primitive angular cab shapes, discreet radiator grille, absurdly hanging rough metal bumper, small round headlights, flat two-piece windshield - these characteristic features were characteristic of all Kamatz models of that time. In general, we can confidently summarize that the appearance of this truck tractor will not be able to cause delight even among the most cheerful optimists.

Modifications of KamAZ-5410

In order to maximize the functional resources of the KamAZ-5410 tractor, as well as to ensure the possibility of its use in any climatic conditions, the Kama Automobile Plant produced this vehicle in several modifications:

The hydraulic version of the KamAZ-5410 was intended to work with special-purpose semi-trailers;

Modifications 5410, 54112 Tropical - for operation in hot regions;

Version 54112ХЛ - for operation in conditions of extremely low temperatures;

KAMAZ-54101 - modification with special hydraulic equipment for the transportation of the GKB-9575 dump truck semi-trailer with a load capacity of 13.5 tons;

Modification with index 54102, characterized by the ability to withstand loads on dual drive axles within 14 tons. Designed to work with the OdAZ-9385 flatbed semi-trailer.

The cost of KamAZ-5410

Despite the outstanding working qualities of KamAZ-5410, one should not forget about its advanced age. The car has been produced for 30 years, plus more than 10 years have passed since the end of its production. And although there are still enough offers to sell this model on the secondary market, there are not so many who want to buy it. This is explained by the fact that in normal condition it is almost impossible to find such a truck, plus, outdated engine modifications do not meet any environmental standards. As a result, sellers are forced to reduce prices for this car to a minimum. So the cost of modifications of the 80s of production varies between 180-200 thousand rubles, the price range of cars of the 90s is from 300 to 500 thousand rubles, and for newer samples they ask from 600 thousand to 1 million rubles.
