The three-axle dump truck KAMAZ-5511 got on the conveyor of the plant in Naberezhnye Chelny in 1977, shortly after the launch of the enterprise. The car had a body with a volume of seven cubic meters, designed for 10 tons of cargo - it was manufactured and mounted on a finished chassis at a plant in Neftekamsk. The car was equipped with an eight-cylinder KamAZ-740 diesel engine with a volume of 10.9 liters and a power of 210 hp. With. combined with a five-speed gearbox.

In 1987, the production of the KamAZ-55111 model began with a modernized engine, which, thanks to the advent of turbocharging, developed 240 forces, and with a load capacity increased to 13 tons. At the same time, the previous version of the model was produced for several more years.
In the early 2000s, the dump truck received a modified cabin design and, in this form, lasted on the conveyor until 2012, it was replaced by a heavier model KamAZ-65115.

In 2007, the licensed assembly of KamAZ-55111 began in the DPRK. There, this car was called Taepaeksan-96 (Taebaeksan - East Korean mountains, 96 - the year of the start of production according to the Juche calendar).
