The Ferrari FXX K, produced from 2015 to 2017, is a purebred racing machine that builds on the street version of the LaFerrari. The “K” in its name stands for the KERS system (Kinetic Energy Recovery System), which not only boosts performance but also offers revolutionary energy efficiency. Under the guidance of Flavio Manzoni and a talented engineering team, including Antonio Lanzillo, the FXX K was developed as an innovatively high-performance hybrid supercar.
With a hybrid powertrain featuring a 6.3-liter (0.4 cubic inch) V12 engine and an electric motor, the car delivers a combined power output of 1,050 hp and a maximum torque of over 664 lb-ft. The V12 alone cranks out nearly 860 hp, while the electric motor kicks in another 190 hp. The advanced transmission, combined with cutting-edge aerodynamics like an adjustable rear spoiler and a sophisticated diffuser, allows this track-only beast to hit speeds beyond 217 mph.
The Genetic Predecessor: The Ferrari LaFerrari
The Ferrari FXX K directly builds on the success of the LaFerrari, which is a predecessor to Ferrari's limited supersport car models. With a laser focus on maximum performance and pure racing orientation, there was no room for compromise in its development, making it impossible to use it on public roads. Both models share the same chassis layout, but the FXX K is significantly more advanced due to its enhanced aerodynamics and optimized hybrid system. This development philosophy cements Ferrari's position as a pioneer in high-performance vehicles.
Racing History and Legendary Status
Even though the Ferrari FXX K isn’t an official race car, it’s definitely made its mark on racetracks worldwide at special events. Drivers like Andrea Bertolini and Davide Rigon, who were already active in Ferrari racing, tested and rated the car during its development. These tests helped shape the vehicle into an exemplary model for extreme racing performance. The Ferrari Corse Clienti program permitted select customers to experience track days with the FXX K without having to compete.
Well-known sponsors like Shell and NGK proudly represent partnerships that are visible on the original car's decals. Special attention was also given to the paint job, with the iconic Rosso Corsa color highlighting the car's aggressive form.
