Ford Mustang GT3 as the reference: tech, generation, and development
The miniature shown here is clearly based on the Ford Mustang GT3, meaning the GT3 racing version of the current Mustang. The road-going base comes from the seventh-generation S650, which has been built since 2023. The predecessor of the production version was the sixth-generation S550 Mustang, which was produced from 2014 to 2023. The Ford Mustang GT3 was developed by Ford Performance together with Multimatic to compete under FIA GT3 regulations in international GT racing series. Structurally, the car uses a racing-specific chassis setup, competition-focused aerodynamics, and a sequential racing gearbox. Power comes from a 5.4-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine, designed with durability, power delivery, and compliance with Balance of Performance requirements in mind. On the development side, Ford Performance personnel and Multimatic engineers were involved; for the production Mustang’s exterior design, Christopher Stevens is known as Design Director, while in the motorsport world Larry Holt is often mentioned as a key technical figure at Multimatic. The Ford Mustang GT3 is not just the successor to earlier Ford GT customer racing programs, but also a modern continuation of the Mustang racing heritage in endurance racing, IMSA, and GT World Challenge.

The model shown here from the Modelly member “mcmarkchat” collection is a model car in 1/18 scale, made by IXO Models. The miniature is shown in race trim with start number 64 and features a striking but nicely structured blue-and-yellow color scheme. This model car in 1/18 scale, made by IXO Models, is a diecast miniature based on the photos. The build captures the proportions of the GT3 car with a long front end, heavily widened wheel arches, a low-slung nose, and the passenger cell set far back. You can clearly see the slim headlights, extra lighting units in the front, large cooling openings, and the hood vents. Along the sides, the big air outlets behind the front wheels, the sharply opened section ahead of the rear wheels, and the pronounced side skirts stand out. At the rear, the diffuser, vertical aero strakes, Mustang-style taillights, and the large rear wing endplates are all reproduced nicely. The surface finish in the photos works well because of the contrast between glossy paint, matte dark aero parts, and the fine printed decals. Small elements like tow marks, fuel or service markings, roof antennae, and window trim are also present. For collectors, it’s interesting that the design not only shows the racing form of the Ford Mustang GT3, but also documents a specific car with its number and sponsor layout. In the shown perspective, the miniature comes across as clean and convincing; especially the mix of the wide GT3 body, clearly separated aero parts, and the blue-yellow racing livery shapes the overall impression of this model from the “mcmarkchat” collection.
