The Jaguar XJ 13 was a sports car prototype with V12 engine, with which you wanted to compete after a long break in the years 1966/1967 again at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Jaguar had been thinking about a twelve-cylinder engine for racing for some time. In 1964, the project took shape, and soon there was a test engine with two overhead camshafts available. The designer M. Sayer developed the extraordinary lines of this prototype, which was completed as a single piece in mid-1966. However, the small development department of Jaguar could not work as freely as one would like to ..... And also the success of the meantime in racing highly successful Ford GT40 meant that this project was not pursued from 1967 onwards.
Engine:
5.0-liter displacement, V12 mid-engine and 495 hp power!
Accident and restoration
In 1971, the V12 engine in the standard version with only one overhead camshaft in the Jaguar E-Type celebrated its world premiere, turned for advertising also a film sequence with the XJ 13, in which he passed the camera at top speed. On January 20, 1971 bursting at over 200 km / h rear tire. The car overturned several times and suffered a total loss. Fortunately, the test driver of Jaguar was able to get out of the vehicle almost unhurt. The XJ 13 was restored only years later. Fortunately, the wooden molds used to make the original body parts existed, so that they could be faithfully recreated. It was different with the wheels - in the accident, two of them were completely destroyed, and the mold used was no longer available. Therefore, other, wider wheels were mounted on the vehicle.
The vehicle in its present state is not an exact reproduction of the original. The wheel arches are now wider to accommodate the wider wheels. Also some electrical and mechanical components have been changed.
The model:
Unique good and exactly implemented model of AUTOart. Even the smallest details are perfectly implemented. The motor with all supply lines, the interior with the displays and switches. The front and rear hoods can be removed, the doors and the engine cover open. In addition, you can also open the two maintenance flaps.
The paint is perfect and the overall look of this beautiful model is just perfect!
