1955 designed the racing engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut based on the 300 SLR coupé. Here Uhlenhaut sat the double doors in 1954 featured Mercedes 300 SL "Gullwing" a.
Contrary to multiple opinion it was not designed famous "Gullwing" -Mercedes 300SL from the "Uhlenhaut Coupe".

This "Uhlenhaut Coupé" had twelve times the power of a former VW beetle with 25 PS and was at a maximum speed of 290 km / h fastest car street legal.
After Mercedes surprisingly withdrew from racing due to a tragic racing accident in 1955, the 300 SLR Coupe Uhlenhaut served as official cars for commuting to work. Obviously not just to the delight of his neighbors, who were each woken by extremely loud exhaust noises.
