Mercedes Renntransporter "The Blue Miracle"

How exactly the legacy Renntransporter emerged is no longer exactly comprehensible. It is known, however, that the vehicle (tube frame, engine and body parts) was composed of several vehicles.
The X-frame of the 300 S as a frame, the powerful engine of the 300 SL as well as parts of the "inner life" of a 180s.

The "creators" of the reindeer transporter succeeded a masterpiece. They created a truly unique vehicle in optics and technical perfection. And they gave the racing department exactly what they needed: an incomparably fast vehicle for transporting the racing cars. The X-tube frame of the 300 S is extended front and rear, so that there is enough space for a Mercedes-Benz racing car on the intended "loading area". The SL engine gets its place just above the front axle (but still BEHIND the driver's cab .....).
This engine is the original 3-liter in-line six-cylinder of the 300 SL, but was throttled from 215 hp to 192 hp. Together with the high torque, the transport truck is able to travel 160 to 170 kilometers per hour, depending on what kind of cargo it transports.

After a few years in the service of Mercedes wanted to offer the now old, but still fascinating one-of-a-kind the well-deserved rest, together with a 300 SLR already waiting in the factory museum. The "Zweienamam" was however too heavy for the statics of the museum at the time, and because of a planned reconstruction the exhibition was to be renounced. So it came that the once proud truck transports Frondienste in the driving test until its repair was no longer worthwhile and he On the instruction of Rudolf Uhlenhaut in December 1967.

In 1993, one finally remembered the old values and commissioned a special company with the reproduction of this unique vehicle.
However, this was quite difficult because practically no documents were available. Only by means of a few drawings and photos did one get to work.
After seven years, the replica of this incomparable car finally stood before the amazed audience.
