The Ferrari 410 Superamerica "Scaglietti" ..... a unique piece according to customer requirements.
In 1957, the wealthy Italian businessman Dottore Enrico Wax (importer of, among others, Johnnie Walker and one of the best customers of Ferrari ...) commissioned the star designer Sergio Scalglietti with the construction, resp. the conversion of a standard 410 Superamerica.
The result was the present model. The original color was black with a natural steel roof.
After the car of Dr. Wax was sold, began an odyssey that led him across Switzerland to America. There the car was rebuilt, and at the end even stolen. The thief disassembled the car and threw the body into a lake (!).
In the 80s, the sad remains were discovered and Scalglietti was commissioned to rebuild the car. With 4 employees (who already worked on the Ursrpungs car), the vehicle was returned to its original condition for over 2 years.
As a color but this time red was chosen. Also, it is not certain that the interior really looked like that back then.
Original:
Ferrari 410 Superamerica with 5.0 liter engine, 12 cylinders and 360 - 400 hp.
Length 4.7 meters, width 1.7 meters and almost 1600 kg weight (so not quite a typical sports car ....)
During conversion, the engine was not changed and the dimensions remained almost identical.
Already price of the original 410 was in the US at that time at nearly 17,000 dollars. He was well over twice as expensive as a Mercedes 300 SL gullwing. What the reconstruction of Scaglietti cost is not known .....
The model:
Beautifully implemented by CMF. The model is made of Resine, so not to open. Beautiful photo-etched parts and a very good paint characterize the model. The headlights in the front are perfectly implemented and the overall impression really very good.
The model is limited to 300 pieces worldwide.
