Mercedes 450 SEL, the "beginning" of the "S-Class"!
From 1972 resp. In 1973, this car was the luxury vehicle at Mercedes. The "L" in SEL stood for "long" and meant that the wheelbase was about 10cm longer than the original model "SE". The SEL was basically a car driven by a chauffeur and used by many governments.
The head of this series was the 450 SEL 6.9, a vehicle whose engine had almost 7 liters and 286 hp!
The exterior was 450 but not distinguishable, only a nameplate on the trunk lid provided a corresponding hint.
Engine:
V8, 4.5 liter displacement and 225 hp. Top speed 225 Km / h. 0-100 in 10 seconds.
These were values that many a Porsche did not achieve!
special:
The basic price was in the year of publication at over 50,000 DM, which was the equivalent of a good condominium.
Nevertheless, everything outside the (rather spartan) basic equipment cost extra. Standard were velor covers, leather or even fabric seats had to be paid extra .... A right wing mirror = surcharge, headrests = surcharge, car radio = surcharge!
The only extra that cost nothing was the omission of the type designation on the trunk ....
The model:
Excellently implemented Revell model. Here is once again clear what the company already could. Just perfect!!
The paint is immaculate, the gap mass pleasingly low and many details are wonderfully designed.
There were 10 years ago, the year of this model, numerous paint variations with different interiors.
The overall impression of this luxury sedan is unique!
