The Jeep of Willys-Overland, the forefather of off-road vehicles!
The Jeep was developed on behalf of the US Army. The contract was to build a vehicle that could be produced cheaply and in large quantities and should be light and off-road.
The company Willys-Overland presented a prototype in 1940, from 1941, the car was built in series.
The Ford company produced the Jeep under license. Willys-Overland produced about 370,000 pieces, Ford about 270,000. The two versions differ only by small details of each other.
The official name is: 1/4 ton 4x4 truck.
Engine: 2.2 liter 4 cylinder, 60 hp, top speed on the road around 100 km / h.
The role model:
For operations in the desert of Africa various suitable vehicles were rebuilt and modified. The British SAS (Special Air Service) was specialized in carrying out fast business with relatively small vehicles.
For this purpose, the Jeep were partly radically rebuilt. Everything that reduced the weight was expanded, even struts on the grille were sawn off. The vehicles received an additional condenser on the front to compensate for the loss of cooling water and were equipped with various weapons. Added to this was a large amount of fuel and water.
The crew consisted of 2 men.
The model:
Beautifully implemented model of Solido. Equipped with a wide-ranging large-caliber machine gun and two Vickers machine guns (from stocks of decommissioned aircraft). There are also a large number of canisters and a condenser on the radiator grille.
The model has been "aged" by me, i. Dirt and dust marks were applied. The painting was changed a little, it was applied a small black patch pattern as it was found on some original vehicles. Four, originally kept white canisters were also sand-colored. In addition, the seats were changed something (seat covers).
Since basically every vehicle was different at that time, there is a lot of "scope" for own ideas;)
