The legendary Barkas B1000 and its historical significance

The Barkas B1000 was a small transporter that played an important role in everyday life in the GDR. It was produced from 1961 to 1990 by VEB Barkas-Werke Karl-Marx-Stadt. It replaced the Barkas V901/2 and served in various areas, from ambulance services to crafts businesses and the police. This second generation of the Barkas B1000 (1961-1990) was known for its versatility and reliability. Equipped with a two-stroke engine, the small transporter had a power output of 42 horsepower and a top speed of about 62 mph. A special variant of the B1000 was the military patrol version, specially modified for use in the NVA (National People's Army). These vehicles were recognized for their rugged construction and adaptability.

With a length of approximately 10 centimeters (3.9 inches), the reproduction is highly detailed. The model is made of die-cast material, providing high stability and considerable weight. As clearly seen in the photos, the model maker has paid great attention to detail. The olive-green paintwork with a white stripe reflects the original color scheme of the military patrol variant. The miniature features accurately reproduced badges and markings, including the "Militärstreife" inscription on both the front and back.

Technical data and highlights of the original Barkas B1000

The Barkas B1000 was powered by a water-cooled two-stroke three-cylinder engine with 993 cm³ (60.5 cubic inches) of displacement, producing a torque of 100 Nm (73.8 ft-lbs) at 2600 rpm.
