The prototype for this miniature is the RUF SCR, a sports car from RUF Automobile in Pfaffenhausen in the Allgäu region. The company goes back to the workshop founded in 1939 by Alois Ruf senior; starting in the 1970s, the business developed its own vehicles based on Porsche and was recognized as an independent car manufacturer in 1981. The modern RUF SCR was unveiled in 2018 and is visually based on the generation 964, which was used for the Porsche 911 from 1989 to 1994. The earlier SCR from 1978 is considered the historical namesake. For the current car, Alois Ruf junior was the managing director and technical driving force behind the project. The body shape with its round headlights, upright windows, wide fenders, and rear spoiler deliberately picks up classic 911 features, but combines them with a unique technical foundation from RUF Automobile.
Under the body of the RUF SCR sits an air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine with 4.0 liters of displacement. It produces 510 hp and around 470 Nm of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a manual six-speed transmission. The car uses a lightweight carbon-fiber composite chassis, so weight is around 1,250 kilograms (2,755.8 pounds), depending on the specification. RUF Automobile stated that the RUF SCR can go from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds (0 to 62 mph in under 2.1 seconds), with a top speed of about 320 km/h (198.8 mph). Technically, that makes it different from many modern high-performance cars: instead of turbocharging or a dual-clutch transmission, it relies on a large-displacement naturally aspirated engine and a manual gearbox. It also gets a specific suspension setup, large ventilated brake discs, and a braking system built to handle heavy loads. The lines stay close to the 911 concept, while the structure, drivetrain, and many parts are unique RUF designs.
The model shown here comes from the collection of Modelly member “Play-X” and is a model car in 1/18 scale, made by Almost Real. It is a limited edition miniature based on diecast material. The photos show a dark green paint finish with highly reflective surfaces on the hood, roof, doors, and fenders. Black window surrounds, wipers, side skirts, and the lower part of the front bumper create a sharp contrast against the green. Behind the clear windows, a brown to reddish interior is visible; you can make out the front seats, dashboard area, and door panels. Small RUF lettering appears at the front of the miniature. The round headlights have detailed inserts, while the slim lights in the bumper are separate bright elements. The wide central air intake in the front bumper and the side openings match the sporty look of the real car.
The side view also shows the key traits of the RUF SCR really well: flared wheel arches, a compact cabin, a low front hood, and the fixed rear spoiler shape the silhouette. The silver multi-spoke wheels have black centers. Behind them sit drilled brake discs and yellow brake calipers, so you can still spot the brake setup even on the stationary model. It’s not possible to clearly assign the rims to a specific wheel brand or wheel model just from the photos; what you can see is a delicate, multi-part-looking spoke design. The model car in 1/18 scale, made by Almost Real, shows separately defined details on the doors, handles, side mirrors, fuel cap, lights, and rear section. The mix of deep green, light wheels, yellow brake calipers, and the brown interior creates a clear and balanced color layout. Especially the smooth paint surfaces and clearly visible panel gaps make the design of the RUF SCR easy to appreciate in collector scale.
