Technology and history of the model Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport

The Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport is part of the seventh generation of the US sports‑car icon and was built from 2014 to 2019. The generation itself is called C7. Chief engineer Tadge Juechter led the project, and the exterior design was overseen by Tom Peters. The Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport sits between the Stingray and the Z06 — it pairs the wide Z06 body with the naturally aspirated LT1 V8. The 6.2‑liter (378.1 cubic inches) V8 makes roughly 343 kW (460 hp) and puts out about 630 Nm (465 lb‑ft) of torque. Depending on the setup you could get a 7‑speed manual with active rev‑matching or an 8‑speed automatic with paddle shifters. Chassis tech includes an aluminum frame, Magnetic Ride Control, an electronic limited‑slip differential and a Brembo braking system with vented, drilled rotors. Compared with the previous C6 generation (whose Grand Sport variant appeared in 2010), the C7 Grand Sport is stiffer, more aero‑tuned and has a lot more electronics. There was also the optional Z07 pack with carbon‑ceramic brakes and even more downforce. Performance lands around under four seconds for the sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph), depending on gearbox, tires and chosen options.

The model in viper64’s collection: a 1/18 miniature by AUTOart

The model shown in viper64’s collection is a Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport in 1/18 scale made by AUTOart. The miniature uses AUTOart’s usual composite construction — a mix of die‑cast metal pieces and finely injected plastic components. That combo lets them keep nice panel gaps and realistic wall thickness for the scale. In the photos you can see the low silhouette and wide Z06 body: big fenders, side air outlets and the pronounced front splitter are well reproduced. Door and hood seams plus the distinct roof area capture the breakup of the C7’s (removable roof) shape realistically. Inside you can make out the sport seats, the D‑shaped steering wheel and the center console angled toward the driver. The brake setup with red calipers and drilled rotors is visible behind the black wheels, which matches the real car’s look.

Paint, markings and visible details

The miniature is painted a bright red, like the Corvette’s common “Torch Red.” There’s a lighter accent stripe on the hood and the signature hash‑mark stripes on the front fender in black. The hood and fender vents are recessed, reproducing the venting lines of the real car. The “Grand Sport” badge on the side intake is applied and readable, and the Corvette crossed‑flags emblems are present on the front and rear. The headlights are done with clear lenses and visible LED elements, and the taillights have a darker finish. The black wheels sit nicely in the arches; behind them you can see the red calipers and drilled rotors indicating a multi‑piston setup like the production car. In viper64’s photos the scene is staged as a narrow‑alley diorama with a low fog/dry‑ice effect on the ground — that makes the ride height look very believable and highlights the front splitter angle. Panel gaps, wheel arches and the slight curvature of the windows are convincing, so the proportions of the real car read well at 1/18 scale. The storefront and garage door backdrop help emphasize the car’s width and show how compact the model looks relative to the scene.

Technical placement and collector notes

The real Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport uses an aluminum spaceframe with composite and carbon body panels attached. The production car has a removable roof panel, a Performance Data Recorder (PDR) and an upgraded cooling system for engine and transmission. The wide body of the Grand Sport is aero‑focused to generate downforce; with the Z07 package the downforce goes up significantly, which also raises drag and can lower top speed while improving lap times. Steering is electric with variable assist and the electronics offer drive modes from “Weather” to “Track.” As a predecessor you can look to the C6 generation Grand Sport that already combined a wide track with the naturally aspirated V8. For collectors: this 1/18 model from AUTOart is built in the composite style (metal + plastic) that allows sharp detail. In viper64’s example the body details — front splitter, side fins and vent openings — are crisply executed, the paint looks even and the stripe edges are clean. The slightly tinted windows still let you read the interior silhouette and you can even spot the seatbelts, which adds to the realism. All in all, this AUTOart 1/18 is a tidy, well‑proportioned representation of the Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport, perfect for a display or diorama and a solid addition to viper64’s collection.
