Taking a Look at the Original Vehicle

The BMW Isetta is an iconic vehicle that shaped the cityscape in the 1950s. This three-wheeled microcar was designed by Egon Brütsch and originally produced by the Italian company Iso SpA as the Iso Isetta. Later, the license was sold to BMW, who built the vehicle from 1955 to 1962. The BMW Isetta was a prime example of how innovative and space-saving designs could be successful in post-war Europe. In 1955, important events such as the establishment of the Bundeswehr and the release of the famous song "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley & His Comets occurred, providing a better understanding of the historical context. One of the most notable features of the Isetta was its front-opening door that allowed access to the cabin. Powered by a 245cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine, the Isetta could reach up to 12 horsepower. This fuel-efficient vehicle accommodated two people and was ideal for city driving. A technical highlight was the low-speed nature of the engine, making the vehicle efficient and maneuverable in dense urban traffic. The Isetta offered a maximum speed of around 85 km/h (53 mph), considered sufficient for city driving in that era. The ingenious design came from BMW engineers who adapted the Isetta to German standards, ensuring its success.
