The Inspiration: Volkswagen T1 in the RWB Long Version
The model that this 1/64 scale version is based on is a modified Volkswagen T1, which was first produced from 1950–1967. The Volkswagen T1, also known as the “Bulli,” was a key player during the economic miracle and was super popular worldwide as both a transporter and a bus. With its air-cooled 1.2-liter (0.03-gallon) boxer engine, this classic originally pumped out about 30 horsepower at around 4,000 RPM. You can’t miss its iconic central VW emblem and the split windshield—a hallmark design that’s still considered cool today. The T1 was VW's first transporter, paving the way for modern vans and kickstarting a series that continues to thrive today.
RWB Transformation: Function Meets Creativity
The long version that we're showcasing here is a nod to the spirit of Rauh-Welt Begriff (RWB). This custom shop is all about extreme designs paired with functionality. Mostly known for their Porsche modifications, RWB has turned the classic Volkswagen T1 into a modern pickup vision. With super wide fender flares, a hefty rear spoiler, and eye-catching aerodynamic components, this ride is totally transformed. You’d hardly recognize it as the workhorse it once was! The mastermind behind this design is Akira Nakai, the founder of RWB, who's made quite a name for himself with his unique style.
