The real thing: a luxury convertible from the Phantom line

The little model is based on the Rolls‑Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé, the open version of the Phantom family. The Phantom VII generation was built from 2003–2016, and the convertible itself was offered from 2007–2016. Its predecessor was the Rolls‑Royce Corniche V, which was produced until 2002. The Rolls‑Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé was developed under the direction of then Rolls‑Royce design chief Ian Cameron; the exterior work also involved Marek Djordjevic. The overall technical development of the Phantom platform was led by Helmut Riedl. The production version picked up a lot of ideas from the 100EX concept, including the distinctive light V‑shape around the grille and the clear, blocky surface language. Typical features of the Rolls‑Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé are the rear‑hinged coach doors, the full four‑seat layout, and the way the rear is designed with a covered soft‑top compartment lid and wood planking.

Technical specs and construction features of the original

Power comes from a 6.75‑liter V12 (BMW N73) with direct injection — that’s about 6.75 liters (1.78 US gallons). Output is roughly 338 kW (460 PS, about 453 hp) and torque around 720 Nm (about 531 lb‑ft). Initially it used a ZF six‑speed automatic, later updated to an eight‑speed automatic. The 0–100 km/h sprint (0–62 mph) takes roughly 5.8 seconds; top speed is electronically limited at around 240 km/h (about 149 mph). The chassis is a hand‑built aluminium spaceframe, paired with electronically controlled air suspension and adaptive dampers. The convertible measures roughly 5.61 m (18.4 ft) long, nearly 2 m (6.56 ft) wide, and weighs over 2.6 tonnes (about 5,732 pounds). A few styling details stand out: the optional brushed stainless‑steel bonnet, the teak‑wood trim around the soft‑top compartment, the round main headlights in rectangular housings, the upright grille and the “Spirit of Ecstasy” hood ornament — all clear brand signatures.

The Kyosho 1/43 miniature in the modelmax collection

The photos show a 1/43 scale model of the Rolls‑Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé from Kyosho, part of the modelmax collection. It’s made in classic diecast construction (pressed metal). The pictures show a light paintjob with a silver front end; the silver hood mimics the brushed‑stainless‑steel bonnet option on the real car. A fine coachline is neatly printed along the flank, echoing Rolls‑Royce’s typical trim. The teak look of the soft‑top compartment is represented by a textured yellow‑brown surface to suggest the teak. The interior is brown; you can make out the four separate seats, a center console and a multi‑spoke steering wheel. The thin A‑pillars, the chrome‑framed windscreen and recessed door handles are separate parts. Up front there’s a small chromed hood ornament. The vertical grille with tight slats, the round headlights with clear lenses and the rectangular surrounds are all nicely defined. The base has the model name printed in white, which makes ID easy for collectors. Overall the miniature captures the proportions of the coupe‑convertible: long hood, short rear and a slightly rising beltline.

Collector’s view and visible details of the Kyosho version

For collectors it’s worth noting this is a 1/43 Kyosho diecast — so it has a satisfying heft. The multi‑spoke wheels echo the real car’s alloy designs; there are no separate brand or tire markings on this example. Lighting elements use clear inserts, with the front indicators printed orange. At the rear the horizontal taillights are separate pieces, and the proportions of bumper and trunk match the real car. The coach doors are indicated by the panel gap; the doors themselves don’t open on this diecast series. The interior shows the four‑seat layout with a wide center console and the characteristically tall headrests, underlining the car’s role as a proper touring convertible — a key point of the Rolls‑Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé. The wooden top cover and chrome trim around the upper body are picked out on the model and reference the real car’s nautical touches. For display it sits on a dark base with the model name, so it fits well next to other cars from the same era. For search or cataloging: it’s a 1/43 Kyosho model of the Rolls‑Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé from the Phantom VII generation (built 2007–2016), photographed from the modelmax collection.
