Technology: S58 biturbo, rear-wheel drive and M chassis parts

In the BMW M2 Coupé (G87) you get the S58 3.0‑liter (0.79 US gallons) inline-six with twin mono-scroll turbochargers. In Europe it makes 338 kW (~453 hp) and 550 Nm (≈406 lb‑ft) of torque. Depending on the gearbox, the M2 does 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in about 4.1 seconds with the 8-speed M Steptronic or around 4.3 seconds with the 6-speed manual. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), and with the M Driver’s Package it’s raised to about 285 km/h (177 mph). You can get adaptive M dampers, M Servotronic steering with variable ratio and the active M differential at the rear axle. Braking is handled by M Compound brakes with 6‑piston fixed calipers up front and large discs. Curb weight is roughly in the area of 1.73–1.78 tonnes (1,730–1,780 kg / 3,814–3,924 lb) depending on options and gearbox; BMW aims for a balanced weight distribution. Inside you’ll find the curved display with BMW Operating System 8, sports seats (optional carbon buckets), a compact wheel with M buttons and track-focused assist and telemetry functions. The predecessor F87 initially used the N55 and later the S55 in Competition/CS versions — so jumping to the S58 in the BMW M2 Coupé (G87) is a logical step and shares components with the bigger M models.

The Minichamps 1/18 model in neophyte1410’s collection

The photos show a Minichamps 1/18-scale model based on the BMW M2 Coupé (G87). It’s part of modeler “neophyte1410”’s collection and is made from diecast, which gives it a solid feel and crisp edges. The doors, hood and trunk open — you can see that in the pictures. The front recreates the chunky bumper and the almost-rectangular twin kidney grille of the BMW M2 Coupé (G87) well, including the textured air intakes. Headlights and taillights have clear multi-piece inserts with visible light guides. The roof shows a carbon texture that echoes the optional lightweight roof on the real car. The paint looks like a dark violet metallic; the deep reflections and fine metallic flakes show up nicely under artificial light. The multi-spoke wheels with low-profile tires sit flush in the flared wheelarches and visually match the M styling of the BMW M2 Coupé (G87), even though the pictures don’t make a specific wheel brand obvious. Inside you can make out the sport seat shapes, center console and the distinctive instrument area with the curved display; the transparent windows are neatly fitted. The model even sports the license plate “M LZ 7198,” which gives it a realistic street look.

Build quality, details and collector tips

Up close, this Minichamps 1/18 diecast of the BMW M2 Coupé (G87) shows an even paint finish, clean panel gaps and fine engravings around the doors, hoods and sills. The diecast construction allows for thin but sturdy door mounts and little flex when opening parts. The front and rear are modeled with separate grille pieces and distinct air channels for a three-dimensional effect. The undertray is simplified but shows main elements like the exhaust and rear axle. For display-case lovers the dark metallic paint combined with the carbon roof makes a calm eye-catcher; on light backgrounds the car’s creases and edges stand out especially well. Since the real car is offered in several solid and metallic colors and with optional M Performance parts, this model works nicely as a reference for color and wheel combos, even if no aftermarket tuning parts are visible in the photos. If you collect variants, also watch for different license plates and interior colors. In “neophyte1410”’s collection this diecast sits neatly in a modern M-themed lineup and represents the BMW M2 Coupé (G87) well thanks to working openings and detailed light units.
