The model shown here is based on the BMW X5 M from the second X5 generation, the E70. This M version was sold from 2009–2013 and was the first time BMW M offered a full-on high-performance SUV as a production car. Under the hood of the BMW X5 M sits the V8 biturbo S63 with 4.4 liters (about 1.16 US gallons) displacement, two twin-scroll turbochargers arranged in the V, and an output of 408 kW (555 PS) — roughly 547 hp. Peak torque is 680 Nm (about 502 lb-ft) available across a wide rev range. The engine is paired with a 6-speed M Sport automatic (M Steptronic) with a manual mode. The xDrive all-wheel drive is tuned to be rear-biased, and the power distribution is further aided by Dynamic-Performance-Control at the rear axle. Factory 0–100 km/h is around 4.7 seconds (0–62 mph). Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph); with the M Driver’s Package it was roughly 275 km/h (171 mph). The car is built on the E70 X5 platform — the previous X5 (E53) didn’t really have a full‑blown M model; the sportiest variant back then was the 4.8is. Development of the BMW X5 M was handled by BMW M GmbH under Albert Biermann, and the E70 styling comes from the era when Chris Bangle was BMW’s design boss. You’ll recognize it by big air intakes, a distinct front bumper, four tailpipes, and the M‑specific chassis tuning with adaptive dampers and big brakes (front discs 385 mm / 15.2 in, rear discs 345 mm / 13.6 in).
