The development of the model type 990 from the predecessor model CV-880 was associated with many difficulties. Only after long modifications announced by the Convair benefits were achieved.
Only 37 aircraft of CV-990 were built. Convair was then on the construction of civilian aircraft.

The CV-990, or as it was also called the "Coronado", was extremely popular with the public and the crew. For its first flight from Zurich to Geneva, the machine had only just 13 minutes ...... this meant an average speed of 1086 km / h!

In Europe operated only SAS and Swissair brand new machines. When second operator also Air France and Spantax were u.a recorded.

HB-ICC (Name: St. Gallen) was factory delivered to Swissair in January 1962nd In March 1975, the last flight from Zurich took place on the military airfield in Stans (Central Switzerland). From there, the machine was brought by sea to Lucerne, where it stands in the Museum of Transport Switzerland since since.
