The car this miniature is based on is the Ford Focus ST from the second generation (2004–2011). The ST version was offered in the Focus lineup starting in 2005 and followed the first-generation Focus ST170. While the ST170 used a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the Ford Focus ST got a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine. The engine was based on a Volvo unit and, depending on the market, put out 225 hp (166 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque between about 1,600 and 4,000 rpm. Power goes through a six-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels. Ford quoted a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time of around 6.8 seconds for the five-door hatchback version and a top speed of about 241 km/h (149.7 mph). The styling was led by Martin Smith, who was in charge of Ford of Europe’s then-current “Kinetic Design.” Typical features include the sharply swept-back headlights, the rising shoulder line, and the wide lower front opening.
The Ford Focus ST is based on Ford’s C1 platform, which at the time was also shared with several other Ford group and partner models. Up front there’s a MacPherson strut suspension, and at the rear the Focus’s signature Control Blade multi-link axle. Compared with regular Focus models, the ST’s suspension was tuned to be firmer, and it also got larger brakes, speed-sensitive power steering, and electronic stability systems. With a powerful front-wheel-drive car like this, torque steer was a design issue too. That’s why the Ford Focus ST got adjusted front-axle geometry and steering characteristics, without the mechanical limited-slip differential used in later RS models. Visually, the early ST stands out with its honeycomb grille, revised front bumper with big air intakes, side skirts, roof spoiler, and ST badges. The car shown here is the pre-facelift version: the headlights, bumper shape, and roofline match the model before the Focus got its update in 2008.
The example from Modelly member “Walter1” is a model car in 1/43 scale, made by Minichamps. The miniature sits on a black display base labeled “Ford Focus ST” and “Colorado-Rot,” which names the version shown. The paint is a bright red tone that, in the photos, shifts from vivid red to a slightly darker red depending on the light. Black areas on the grille, around the window frames, and in the lower air intakes create a nice contrast with the body color. You can see the Ford oval in the grille, the small ST badge on the front fender, the front plate marked “Focus ST,” and the silver alloy wheels with blue center caps. The windows are darkly tinted, so you can still make out the dashboard, steering wheel, front seats, and parts of the rear seat area. Exterior mirrors with light-colored strips, windshield wipers, the roof antenna, door handles, and the neatly detailed lights are also visible in the photos.
This model car in 1/43 scale was made by Minichamps as a diecast miniature. That means the body is made from diecast metal, while parts like the glazing, lights, mirrors, wheels, and antenna are made from other model-friendly materials. The proportions of the five-door hatchback make the short hood, sharply sloped windshield, compact cabin, and long downward-tapering rear easy to see. The side view especially shows off the molded door gaps, wheel arches, and lower sill line. Up front, the clear headlight inserts and the textured black lower grille area stand out; at the rear, you can spot the roof spoiler, rear window, and rounded taillights. The design looks clean and well-balanced thanks to the combination of red paint, dark glass, and metallic-looking wheels. For collectors, the limited production run is also important: Limited edition – 1 of 1,248 pieces worldwide. That note is also printed on the right side of the base, identifying it as a numbered limited release.
