McLaren F1 GTR Short Tail 1995: Prototype, Generation, and Technical Basis
The miniature shown in the Modelly member “Forza” collection is most likely based on the McLaren F1 GTR BMW Short Tail 24 Hours of Le Mans 1995. The underlying production car was the McLaren F1, and the racing version was called the F1 GTR. The model belongs to the 1st generation, built from 1992 to 1998. There wasn’t really a direct predecessor to this kind of McLaren road car, since the F1 was the brand’s first street-legal production car. The car was developed under the direction of Gordon Murray; the exterior was shaped with input from Peter Stevens.
