BMW M5 G90: the sedan version of the eighth M5 generation

The subject of the miniature is the BMW M5 (G90), the sedan of the eighth generation, which has been built since 2024. The photos do not show a Touring version of the G99 series, but the four-door sedan with the model designation G90. Its predecessor was the BMW M5 of the F90 series, which was offered from 2017 to 2023 and already came with standard M xDrive all-wheel drive. The BMW M5 (G90) combines a 4.4-liter V8 with two turbochargers and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The plug-in hybrid system delivers 535 kW (727 PS) and a maximum system torque of 1,000 Nm (737.6 lb-ft). That lets the sedan sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.5 seconds according to the manufacturer; top speed is 250 km/h (155.3 mph) as standard, or 305 km/h (189.5 mph) with the M Driver’s Package. One striking point is the hefty vehicle weight of around 2.4 tonnes (5,291 pounds), which comes in part from the hybrid tech, battery, and extensive standard equipment.

Hybrid tech, M xDrive, and chassis setup

Technically, the BMW M5 (G90) is based on BMW’s G60 5 Series generation. Its V8 carries the internal code S68 and works together with a 145 kW electric motor. The lithium-ion high-voltage battery has a gross capacity of 18.6 kWh; in pure electric mode, depending on equipment and test values, it can cover around 67 to 69 kilometers (41.6 to 42.9 miles) according to WLTP. The variable M xDrive all-wheel-drive system electronically distributes power between the front and rear axles. You can select a more rear-biased 4WD Sport mode through the driving settings; with the stability control switched off, a pure rear-wheel-drive mode is also available. Chassis tech includes adaptive M dampers, Integral Active Steering with rear-wheel steering, active roll stabilization, and high-performance M brakes. Visually, the BMW M5 (G90) is marked by the heavily sculpted wheel arches, the large BMW kidney grille with a black surround, the narrow front headlights, and the deep air intakes in the front bumper. The M5 badge on the right side of the grille is a typical detail for this model.

Minichamps BMW M5 G90 in gray metallic paint

The model car shown here in 1/18 scale was made by Pauls Modell Art / Minichamps and is part of Modelly member “neophyte1410”’s collection. The miniature is made of diecast material, meaning the body panels are made from cast metal. What you see here is a gray metallic finish, with fine metallic particles visible in the light. Black elements stand out on the grille, the lower air intakes, the front splitter area, the side skirts, the window surrounds, and the roof. The color layout matches the current BMW M5 (G90) in a clean, technically focused way. A BMW emblem sits on the hood, and a small M5 badge is mounted on the grille. The front license plate “M CI 198E” is a stylistic nod to Munich and the electrified drivetrain. The multi-spoke wheels are finished in black and silver; their fine spokes, visible tire tread, and large brake discs round out the M-specific look of the miniature.

Opening body parts and visible details of the 1/18 miniature

This model car in 1/18 scale by Pauls Modell Art / Minichamps has several opening features. In the photos, both front doors, the hood, and the trunk lid are open. That makes the model’s construction and the panel gaps of the moving parts easy to see. Under the front hood there is a dark engine bay with hinted components and an orange warning label, matching the high-voltage technology of the BMW M5 (G90). With the doors open, you can see the dark interior with the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, front seats, and rear passenger area. The side mirrors are separate parts, and the wipers and light units are also individual components. The front view especially shows off the wide grille, the slim headlights, and the black lower air intakes. The appeal of the model car comes mainly from the clear mix of metallic gray, dark contrast elements, crisp body lines, and the M5 markings that are so characteristic of the BMW M5 (G90).
